WHO WE ARE
The Lions Club of Leonia is composed of NJ area residents who support charitable organizations that give aide to the blind and those in need. The Leonia Club was formed in 1939 and is a charter organization of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization, with over 1.4 million men and women belonging to clubs in over 191 countries and geographical locations. In addition to supporting the many Lions Club projects worldwide, we are involved in many charitable efforts in the local community. We meet each month at Vitales Restaurant. Contact us for additional information or please consider a donation directly on this website. The club is a 501(c)3 organization and 100% of the proceeds raised go directly to charity. The Leonia Lions are a volunteer based organization.

IN THE COMMUNITY
The club offers free vision screenings using a Spot Vision Screener. The Leonia Lions Club conducts eye screening at Leonia Schools and various townwide events using the automated high tech Spot Vision Screener, a camera-like device. The results are shared with individuals, the school nurse, and subsequently with eye-care specialists to determine an appropriate course of action. The screenings are conducted by club members. Play the adjacent video that features a story about how a screening potentially saved one child's life.
Eyeglass Assistance Program
In addition the free eye-screenings the club steps up to help expedite the acquisition of eye-glasses when needed. Anna C. Scott School Nurse Linda Bernard responded with a thank you note to club president Bill Previdi and members Jim Leynse, Christoph Hesterbrink, Reddy Nukalapati, and club VP Scott Selleck.

Simply drop your old eyeglasses into our yellow mailbox located outside of PNC Bank on Broad Avenue, or in our drop box inside the Leonia post office. We pickup the eyeglasses on a regular basis and send them on to be redistributed. Donated eyeglasses are used by children and adults around the world. There's a good chance that your old unused glasses will give someone the joy of experiencing corrected vision for the first time in their life. Millions in undeveloped countries lack access to basic eye care services. Please make the effort to donate the glasses rather than discarding them or leaving them unused.

The Leonia Lions Club grants an annual scholarship to a Leonia High School graduate to further their education. This Scholarship is cosponsored by the Miller Family in memory of Edward Miller who served with distinction as Secretary of our club for over 20 years.
The Leonia Lions donate annually to the Leonia Library to insure that it provides an adequate supply of reading material for the visually impaired. Large print books and magazines have larger than normal print to make them easier for people with low vision to read.

Helping Leonians in need
The Leonia Lions have many times assisted in special situations in which an eye exam and glasses are needed and the family cannot afford to pay. We also help in situations like financing a students trip to the NJ Camp for Blind, Camp Marcella. The club also has a history of providing emergency help to local families devastated by tragedies.
